About Paul H. Kim, MD

Foot & Ankle Specialist

Orthopedic surgery is founded on the principle of prevention. All patients are encouraged to undergo musculoskeletal examinations if their ailment does not acutely resolve on its own.

Hailing from San Francisco, I grew up in the Bay Area and call it my home. Simply, I love the area, culture, weather, but most importantly the people.

ANKLE PAIN

Ankle instability can result from acute sprains (i.e., less than 20%) or recurrent sprains. Patients commonly describe their symptoms as, “I don’t trust my ankle,” the “ankle just gives out,” or “my ankle always feels weak.” Ankle sprains are one of the most common sport injuries that bring patients to a doctors office. Most ankle sprains can be treated conservatively with brace, physical therapy and functional rehabilitation. However, a select few do not respond to conservative care.

HEEL PAIN

Hindfoot arthritis encompasses three joints, the subtalar joint, talonavicular joint and calcaneocuboid joint. Post-traumatic arthritis is a common cause of hind foot arthritis but can be caused by inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis. First line of treatment is conservative to include brace, orthotics, modified shoes & activities, and injections. However, hind foot arthritis tends to progress with time and activity. The standard of care is typically fusion.

Toe Pain

TOE PAIN

A broken toe most often can be treated conservatively with splinting and occasionally a protective shoe or boot. The deciding factor is if there is significant displacement, malalignment or extension of the fracture into the joint line.

Procedure

  1. When you visit, we will obtain an x-ray.
  2. Afterwards, I will perform a comprehensive physical exam.
  3. We will then collectively decide on the best treatment course. Some occasions we may need further imaging such as a CT scan or MRI.
